CDC sponsors "Only in Berne" photo contest

BERNE, Ind.-The Berne Community Development Corporation is sponsoring an autumn photo contest that highlights things seen "Only in Berne." The contest is open to photographers of all ages, with entries accepted through noon, Dec. 16, 2005.

Photographs will be judged on the "Only in Berne" theme and will be evaluated for composition and photographic quality. One winner will be named in each of several different categories.

The first contest category is Best of Berne. The winner in this category will receive $75 in Swiss Bucks and an overnight stay in the jacuzzi suite at the Black Bear Inn.

A second category, Special Berne Photos, is subdivided into four subject areas. They are: humorous, shopping, countryside and family fun. One winner will be chosen from each of these areas, and each area winner will receive $50 in Swiss Bucks.

There will be one winner named in the category of artistic interpretation, and that winner will receive custom framing of his or her contest photo.

Each submission must include the photographer's first and last name, mailing address, e-mail address (if available), telephone number and the title of the photo. Up to 10 photographs may be submitted per entrant in either black-and- white or color. Images may be submitted as either prints or as digital files, but slides will not be accepted.

Photographers are asked to show respect for the religious traditions of Berne's Amish citizens, and are urged not to ask persons of the Amish faith to pose for pictures. Photos should also not be taken without the permission of persons whose image might be easily identified.

Photos should be mounted on mat board or foam core that extends at least two inches beyond the edges of the photograph. Prints must be at least 5x7 inches, and digital entries must be in jpg format at the highest possible resolution.

The CDC reserves the right to use submitted photographs in future photo promotions, but if used, a credit line will be given to the photographer. Photo copyrights remain with the photographer. All entries will be considered, and winners will be notified by telephone.

Prints or CD-ROMS can be mailed to BCDC Photo Contest, PO Box 27, Berne, IN 46711, or can be hand delivered to the Berne Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street. Entries can also be e-mailed to chamber@bernein.com.
